Halong bay Vietnam
So many people come to the bay, you would think that it was getting crowded. However, it is worth remembering that the bay is six hundred square miles in size. It is not difficult to find solace and peace here. Some of the beaches are exceptional and make for tremendous family swimming. They are safe and the currents not strong. As always it is important that you listen to your local guides who will make sure that they find the safe places.
For the more experienced swimmer there are greater challenges and experiences to enjoy. Some of the flooded caves are superb and swimming in and out of these provides a unique opportunity. Halong Bay luxury cruises create the atmosphere in which to enjoy this wonderful pastime. Many people simply dive from their craft, swim round for a while then climb back aboard before the captain weighs anchor and heads off for another location.
Many of the younger groups of people will party long and hard and enjoy beach parties with swimming and snorkeling. It is always worth remembering that alcohol and swimming are not a good combination. Whilst not wishing to spoil anyone’s enjoyment, your safety is of paramount importance. Listen to your tour guides and follow a few basic rules and swimming in Halong Bay can be a wonderful experience.

One Day Trip to Halong Bay

We recently went on a holiday to Southeast Asia. I had always wanted to go to this part of the world. thailand with its wild nightlife and beach parties and Cambodia with the best temples imaginable, had been pulling at my heart strings since schooldays. The big surprise though, was Vietnam. I had no idea just how beautiful this country was. I had hear about the two big cities Hanoi and Saigon abvipously but it was not one of these that blew us away completely. It was a boat trip on the sea. Sounds simple enough doesn’t it, but there is nothing simply about Halong Bay Vietnam . Well nothing simple apart from the simplicity of its staggering beauty. If you have never seen pictures of this place, look it up. It is incredible.
Halong bay Vietnam

The bay is enormous, it just seems to go on for ever. It is peppered with tiny islands that just stick out of the sea, and tower above everything. They look unreal, steep sides, luscious greenery on the tops and beautiful beaches at the shoreline. There are hundreds of them. We booked a day trip and the only annoying part was that we didn’t book for longer. I could easily have spent a whole week here.

We were picked up at our hotel in the Old Quarter of Hanoi, there’s a whole other story about this place as well, and driven for about 3 hours or so to Halong City, and the boat. The drive out is great, its in the Red River Delta and the countryside is really pretty. Watching the farmers and the water buffalo was really cool. We jumped onboard the boat and the staff welcomed us with a drink. We sailed around Halong bay for about 4 hours. The boats just idle along at a leisurely pace, weaving in and out of all these unbelievable islands. It is one of the most beautiful places I have ever seen.

We stopped of at one of the islands and was taken round a really great cave. Massive stalagmites and stalactites were everywhere. It was unlike anything I had ever seen before. We stopped of at another island and were able to jump in the sea and do some snorkelling. It was brilliant. The water here is so clear, you can see everything. Eventually it was time to go and the boat took us back to the pier, where our minivan was waiting to take us back to Hanoi. I really didn’t want to leave. It was an unforgettable day and one that I hope I am lucky enough to repeat sometime.

The most magical place on earth - Halong Bay Vietnam

I had never even heard of  Halong Bay Vietnam when I left England to come to Vietnam for a holiday. I wanted to come here ever since as a young boy I had said with my father watching the daily news conferences from Vietnam, provided the latest information on the war. It was on TV every night and the words, Hanoi, Saigon and Mekong Delta would enter my vocabulary without my ever having experience of them. They just sounded so romantic and I hankered after coming to see for myself for years.

Halong bay vietnam
I flew into Hanoi, the idea being to see the city, visit the Mekong then make my way up to hanoi to spend a week there. Saigon was fantastic, it was prettier than I expected. To have a meal in The Rex Hotel, was an emotional ride for me. It was from here that those nightly news reports were broadcast. Sitting here feeling the weight of history, brought emotional memories of my late father, flooding back.
To go to the Mekong Delta was, likewise, a very emotional trip. This was the name that I had heard everyday throughout my formative years. It was alongside, Bob Dylan and the Springfields, the backdrop to my youth. The trip was really cool. Jumping in and out of motorboats and tiny rowing boats we travelled through the tiny side streams to see local people engaged in local industries. Making rice paper for spring rolls and noodles, growing fruit to sell at the floating markets and generally living a life unchanged for a lot long than the days of the war.

After a week in and around Saigon i flew up to Hanoi, looked for some excursions and found myself booking a trip to sail in Halong Bay for two nights and three days. This was the highlight, no doubt about that. It is easily the most amazing place I have ever visited. The scenery blows your mind and makes you realise that no matter how great mankind can makes something, nature always does it better.

It is an enormous area of sea, with hundreds and hundreds of tiny islands that stick out of the water everywhere you look. The boast was very luxurious and we poodled about between these islands for three days, stopping off to visit caves and fishing villages. The food on board was awesome and sitting up on deck enjoying a drink as the sun went down will live in my memory for ever.

I find it hard to believe that I had never heard of this place, it was gained accolade upon accolade. A UNESCO World Heritage Site, one of the SEVEN Wonders Of Nature, A special Biosphere and many more. I adored Halong bay, and cannot wait to come back and do it all again. - Halong bay Clients
